After Friday night, I am now officially the 'best dad in the world' after a fantastic 18th birthday party for my daughter. However, the star of the show was my PS3.

My younger daughter and I had pre-loaded it with about 300 dance tracks and sorted them into playlists. I also downloaded Vidzone and we created a party playlist of favourite videos. I then set the PS3 up with my HDTV monitor in a marquee in the garden, piped it through an amp to my father-in-law's massive 1970's boombox speakers.

The PS3 performed beautifully, pumping out the playlist to the pre-set visualisers interspersed with Vidzone vids streamed wirelessly. Awesome!

This got me thinking of all the different ways other OAPs may have used theirs in different situations. So, do tell. How have you used yours?

As mine is connected to the main TV and 5.1 amp. My PS3 is our media server, blue-ray player and obviously games console. But I now also use it to scroll randomly through our photos and its a huge photo frame, great for when the in-laws come over and want to see some pictures. I also use it to check the news and weather, and when friends come over it is also the DJ.
I have family members on 3 other continents who also have PS3's and use it to chat and game with them from time to time. That's about it I think.

Mine is well and truly overused.

I have PlayTV installed so all our living room TV watching is done via the PS3.

I use the iPlayer for watching Top Gear when there's none available on Dave.

I have nearly a terrabite of Videos on my network drive so the PS3 gets hammered watching those.

I use the messaging systems (voice and text) to keep in touch with a couple of my PS3 owning friends.

I also use it for gaming sometimes too...biggest addictions being Rock Band and Socom.

I use it for showing off family photos, for music and gaming.

we also use it for Eastenders on the iplayer.

Iplayer is so useful & more people use iplayer on PS3 than Macs, So its suprising that 4OD etc. havent got in touch with Sony.

I would use it more for music & video more but the folder system is all over the place, and I like to have all my films & music on portable drives.

Also I use it for playing SACDs. although I'm probably the only one in the world.

out of interest did you get adverts now and again during the party, or do adverts not interupt on a playlist?

Games though have used it for music. The girls use it for music / films.

My wife will be using it for photos soon once I've set it up on the TV she uses. This will happen just after I've convinced her it's a good idea and just before I buy another. She wants photos/blu-ray so this is how to do it.

It's like a lot of technology - not pushed to anywhere close to it's limits despite those limits making us want it in the first place.

I worked out beforehand that every 3 songs it seemed to play an advert. However, if you play 1 video, close it down and return to the mp3 playlist, then fire it up again, no adverts. Fortunately, there were several 'speeches' so the slight delay in switching apps went unnoticed. We did largely stick to the mp3 playlist anyhow.

Games and blu-ray watching. Oh and watching TV Burp if we catch the full episodes on youtube before they get deleted. We don't have iPlayer over here. Sad

Before the wired connection went tits up in the lounge (and I got insanely busy at work) we used it loads to stream music, TV and films from the main PC upstairs. It's especially good for shuffled music when we have friends over as I've connected a second set of speakers to the amp and they are wired into the kitchen.

Also, had two sets of friends over at the weekend and for the first time in a very long time I didn't feel like a gaming geek as we all got down with Beatles Rock Band with 3 of us singing, 2 guitars and the drums. Great fun.
