Introduction - Atum

Postby Alpine_Atum » Thu 03 Jul 2003, 1:09 am

Hello! :)

I have seen you OAP's online and found your website via the Clan listing on the UKPE website.
Anyway! I'm a 30 year old, male, playstation 2 gamer, and have recently discovered the delights of on-line gaming and SOCOM Navy Seals! Thinking I was playing against loads of upstart kids, with their ignorance of the delights of ATARI and the ZX80, Vic 20 etc.. I was delighted to discover your clan!
I spent a few years in the wilderness. Skipping pretty much everything after my ZX Spectrum+2, until the PsOne came along and then the Ps2.
Us veterans might be getting slightly creaky, but we can still show these kids a thing or two, being veterans of Commando, Beach Head, Operation Wolf etc.
Would love to finally play a team game too, where people actually use these new fangled head set things!
Cheers! Hope you'll welcome another OAP!

Welcome Atum

Hello Sir,

welcome to the Clan, seeing as you are 30 you have passed the only specific requirement for membership and probably in a short while one of the Elders will do the necessary behind the scenes fiddling to enable access to almost all areas.

ZX spectrum, now there was a machine that all my saddo mates at school had, whiffling on about Manic Miner and Chuckie Egg, whilst I had my educationally sound but a bit square Electron to play with.

Anyway,

hope to see you soon online!

ahh the end of civilisation. the +2 was an abomination that required terminating at birth. but no. alan sugar then went on the release the +3. talk about flogging a dead horse. so much potential ruined.
the 128K was the last true spectrum but how much did i want a QL. true multitasking in 1985 (or so). amazing. shame loki never emerged...

Hi Atum,

As his c00kyness states you safely in the age limit so welcome to the OAP's....

But have to agree it is nice to play online in the comparative safety of OAP rooms away from the yooth and those horrible creatures known as cheaters.

Anyway you should get an email in a little, saying your invited to join the bowling club, all this means is that you will be able to read more of the forum and you are also then eligable to play in our nightly closed games, the password to which is in the Meetings sections of the forum, and also give you the right to use the [OAP] tag in front of any online name you have. The name is only compulory if you wish to play in any of our teams but playing in a team is not compulsory as we have many who just enjoy playing the more relaxed closed games.. If you do wish to play in a team the way to apply is in the FAQ . the link to which is on the left menu..

So welcome to the OAP's.. Feel free to have a look around . :)

Cheers Fellas!

Received the email, but can't open it yet, 'cos Hotmail server too busy!

I agree, my Speccy +2 was an Amstrad abomination! Actually prefered my mates 48K! Seemed somehow moe respectable. Closer to the Speccys ZX80/81 roots! As for my other mates Commadore 64. Pah! We don't need your fancy graphics and 'real computer' beige colour scheme!
:)

See you online!

At last a new member with a name I can sorta pronounce :D

Welcome Atum - always good to get someone aged 30 or over to redress the balance of all these cheeky yoofs who seem to be sneeking in under the current age limit.

I expect to see you turning my sights red soon.

Welcome! You'll see me around complaining that soldiers never had it so easy. Silenced weapons? Pah. I don't know.. they should let us play the bagpipes so they know we're coming.

See you online soon.

I'm thinking that we will be on two rooms anight pretty soon.

Join us on quakenet IRC #OAPS soon too.

Cheers.

Hi Atum

I'm afraid I stand by Amstrad... albeit only in retrospect!

They have released the ZX spectrums ROMS to public domain so that the children of today can enjoy the spectrum without having to f about on the internet for hours!!

The grief i had trying to find images of the Amiga workbench and Kickstart discs!!
