Mid Life Crisis

Fri 09 Feb 2018, 3:33 pm

It's been a while since I've posted for various reasons. Having been through a proper mid life crisis, I thought I'd try the more popular, misnamed and more fun version of it so I bought this (the bike, not the dog and ignore the Scenic in the background, I don't know how that got there)--

I flatter myself by calling it 'midlife' as that would imply a life expectancy of 100+

The only thing I regret about the purchase is not doing it earlier!

Are there any other bikers on here and is anyone else having a midlife fuck it all and do what you want thing?

Are there any bikers in OAP? I should coco :D My biking got seriously curtailed as I forgot to SORN mine, and 8 years later I find I need to pay the government a few grand in fines for the purposes of getting it back on the road . Bastards.
It's more than the bike's worth, so I'd have to get another one if I was so inclined.

I won't be getting another bike anytime soon as they terrify the wife :(

So no. No fuck it and doing my own thing here

Shiney side up :D

Hi Watty, welcome back! I've always been a bit fuck it and do what I want, but I couldn't recommend it as a long term strategy ;) Also, I wouldn't call myself a biker but I'd always ridden bikes, including as part of my job, until about 5 years ago, and I really miss it. Nothing quite like it!

Welcome back Watty.

/me Gets up off the floor

No bikes for me, I'm too sensible and the mrs ensures I stay that way.

My only treat is a convertible that I've had for 12 years..

Moped=motor pedal

I have a scooter.

Also not wrong with being pissed and spelling incorrectly :Y:

Wb Watty. I wouldn’t mind doing the whole bike thing, but the wife won’t have it!

the only motorbike I ever owned was a Yamaha DT50 which I bought off a kid up the road, my parents gave me an advance on my birthday money so it was technically a 15th birthday present (I think it was 15).

It was like this, but in a worse state with no lights or any road parts on, I solely rode it on dirt tracks (and fields, and riverbanks, and the one time I did go up the road on it I got back to find the local bobby standing in the driveway.).

Image

My mate, who I rode with, had a few bikes so we rode those too, a Yamaha trials bike, a monkey bike and a Suzuki RM80, not forgetting his brother's KTM250 which had no rear shock, instead it had a block of wood.

But that's my limit with bikes, would never ride one on the road, have too many friends/relatives who've had pretty nasty crashes and it put me off.

I sold my KTM a few years ago after being told "motocross is incompatible with the longevity of a hip replacement"

Still have a Beta 290 and Alex has a Beta 125 so we go trails riding at a local quarry when we have any free time.

Most weekends though, we're out in the mud / rain / snow taking Alex racing / practising on his TM125 (though we've had a rare period of 4 weeks off because he decided to cartwheel his brand new 2018 down the track to smash it up a bit and break his collarbone again in the process)

No video of the crash unfortunately, but the go-pro footage is still pretty good :)

I have been a biker all my life and have only in the last few years retired from biking due to Arthritis in my knees and them collapsing on me. But I have the urge for a trike.
