Light Gun for a flat screen LCD tv

This looks sweet for shooter type stuff

How has this seemingly not been done before? will someone come along and buy the tech/rights to it or will curved tv screens be what kills it
the kickstarter looks like it met the goal in only a day

I keep meaning to get my trackball and Wiimotes working on my retropie, this would be nice.

I would absolutely take one, I used to love playing Die Hard on the PS1 with my old Predator 2 light gun.
